Rivermen lose in Chilliwack; get set for game in Alberni Valley

The long anticipated game between Langley and Chilliwack did not disappoint. Although the Chiefs won the game, it was a close spirited affair with Chilliwack winning the Hockey game 5-3 in the end. The Chiefs got out to a fast start especially David Bondra (son of Petr) who had two power play markers to put the home team up 2-0 after the first period of play. In the second frame, it was deadlocked through the first 15 minutes, until Austin Plevy scored his second goal of the campaign and second in his last two games to cut the Chief lead to one. The Rivermen tied it up early in the third period as affiliate defenseman Ryan Lisowsky scored his first career BCHL goal to knot things up at two a piece.  It was the Chiefs however responding with two goals in a row to pretty much put the game away, although Darnell Dyck scored a power play goal at the 13:49 mark, it was not enough as the Chiefs prevailed. Mitch Gillam picked up the win for the Chiefs where Jim Kruger was charged with the loss facing 36 shots.

The Rivermen will look to make up for the loss at Prospera Centre as they are now on the ferry on route to Alberni Valley. This will be the third meeting of the season between these two teams with the season series tied at 1-1. Oddly enough both scores were 7-1 with the two games taking place at the Langley Events Centre. For the new players on the team who have yet to experience a game at the ‘Dog Pound, they will be in for an electric atmosphere especially on a Saturday night which is always a “doozy”. The Bulldogs like the Rivermen are coming into tonight fresh off losses as Alberni Valley got pumped at home last night against Coquitlam 6-2. It will be a big game in the standings for the Rivermen as they are just five points back of the Bulldogs for 7th place. Mike Bordignon will have the call at 7 PM at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/langleyrivermen .
