Rivermen weekend preview

The work load in the coming weeks for the Langley Rivermen will not be what they are used to. The team will play only 7 games over the next 22 days. The ‘Men are set to begin a season high 6 game home stand beginning this Saturday and in fact is  the only game this week for the squad. Of the remaining 19 games, Langley will see both Cowichan Valley and Surrey four times each and Coquitlam a total three times. However 11 of the 19 contests will be at the Langley Events Centre where the Rivermen have played some of their best Hockey. Currently the Rivermen are in 8th place in the Coastal Conference with 30 points and will look to get out of a six game losing streak on Saturday.

Opponent: Coquitlam Express

Where: Langley Events Centre

Time: 7 PM

Saturday will be the 6th time the Rivermen and Express will clash heads. The Express lead the season series with four wins and one loss and have won back to back scores of 6-3 over Langley at the LEC . They even won the first meeting of the season on October 7th in Coquitlam 6-3 as well. The Express hold down the last playoff spot with 48 points and have a seven point cushion on 5th place Nanaimo and are only five points back of 3rd place Surrey. Coquitlam has been rolling of late as they have won eight out of their last 9 games and even had their eight game win streak snapped last Saturday in Vernon. Alex Petan leads his team in scoring against Langley this season as he is on a five game point streak against the Rivermen and has six goals and three assists. On the Langley side Mike Tebbutt leads the way against their cross town rivals with five goals and two helpers.

You can expect to see some new look lines from the Rivermen standpoint as all four line combinations have been changed in hopes of creating some more offense. Watching practice throughout the week, it has been more physical than usual and have been battle heavy. The coaching staff has put the team through their paces and look determined to come away Saturday with two points.

On Saturday the Rivermen will have a promotion called “Awful Night”. For one night only Hockey will be turned upside down and will feature all sorts of hilarious things throughout the night where you would have to be there to believe it!
