RIVERMEN GAMEDAY: Rivermen @ Capitals

The Langley Rivermen will face a familiar foe tonight. For the third time this month, the Rivermen will lock horns with the Cowichan Valley Capitals, but this time around it will be on Cowichan’s home soil. Tonight will mark the sixth meeting of the season between the clubs with the ‘Caps having an undefeated record at 5-0 against the ‘Riv. The last two games (6-4, 3-2 for Cowichan) have been close compared to games earlier in the season series where the Capitals won rather easily.

The Rivermen are fresh off a dissapointing 4-3 loss last night against Victoria and will look to bounce back this evening. It was a difficult pill to swallow for the Rivermen especially after their dominating performance they had in Surrey on Wednesday night. The Capitals on the other hand are red hot of late. They played host to the Vernon Vipers last night and were able to put up a 6-4 win and have now won four out of their last five games. The Island Savings Centre has been kind to them as well as they have not lost in regulation on home ice in five games.

In the standings, after the loss last night, the Rivermen are in eighth spot with 39 points, but still do have three games in hand against sixth place Victoria and are only two points back. They also have a game in hand against seventh place Alberni Valley and are only a single point behind. The Capitals on the other hand are in the three hole in the Coastal Conference with 71 points and are one point back of Powell River, but have played the most games out any Coastal team at 55 GP.

It will be interesting to see how Langley responds after last night’s defeat. They will need all hands on deck for tonight’s contest and know that they are walking into a hostile environment. Last time the two teams played it got really heated in a game that pretty much had it all in what turned out to be an 8-5 Cowichan victory. It should not be a hard game to get up for if your the Rivermen as they “owe” them one and then some! It will be a 7:30 puck drop from the “Big Stick” and can be heard live on the Rivermen broadcast network at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/langley-rivermen-hockey .
