Austin Azurdia has been named this weeks Gongshow BCHL player of the week. It is the second time this year he has taken POW honours. The Wenatchee native started off the week with a three-point performance against the Coquitlam Express on Tuesday in a 7-1 win and was named the FortisBC energy player of the game. On Friday he helped his team knock off the first place Victoria Grizzlies 6-3 and was named first star with two goals and an assist. In that win he scored an unassisted shorthanded game winner.
“It is a big honour for me, but I wouldn’t have been able to achieve it without the help from my teammates,” Azurdia said.
“I feel like my game is getting better and better as the season goes along and at the end of the day, winning is the only thing that matters, but getting these accolades along the way is definitely nice.”
Azurdia is now second on the team with 17 goals and is tied in game winning goals with four.
Azurdia and the Rivermen have a busy week as they make their first trip up to Prince George for two games on Thursday and Friday. The team will have Saturday off and then will host the Nanaimo Clippers on Sunday afternoon.
