It’s not often a 16-year old rookie knows what his longer term future will look like but Marcus Vela isn’t your average 16-year old.
The Langley Rivermen rookie has committed to play at the University of New Hampshire starting in 2016. The 16-year old is just a few games into his junior hockey career but wanted to sort out his college scenario early in order to focus on the present and not worry about the future. It’s a similar decision he made in coming to the Riv, a team and organization he respected then and hopes to help bring to new heights now.
Last year playing midget with Burnaby minor hockey, Vela amassed an impressive 25 goals and 80 points in just 30 games. Along with Darien Craighead, Vela is one of two 16-year olds on the Rivermen roster this season although you wouldn’t know it either by looking at him or by his play on the ice. He stands at 6’2″, 190 pounds and will be a big part of the Riv for the next few seasons.
