It was just over one year ago when Rivermen forward Austin Azurdia scored one of the most talked about goals in recent memory. Sunday afternoon the 20-year old pulled out another clutch performance notching the overtime winner against the visiting Alberni Valley Bulldogs, a goal that kept a point streak alive at a now impressive six games.
It was a bit of a slow start production-wise for Azurdia who was held off the scoresheet for the first five games of the season. But an Island road trip kickstarted the slick forward into gear as he now has 9 points including six goals in the last six games.
Azurdia wasn’t even expected back for a second BCHL season after racking up 35 points in 53 games last year with the Riv. But the Wenatchee, Washington native chose to delay his commitment to the University of Connecticut for a year with a chance to do something special with the Rivermen.
