Rivermen Get Set to Wrap Up Pre-season

The Langley Rivermen will conclude their exhibition season with two more games, Friday night in Surrey and Sunday afternoon, when they host Powell River.

The Rivermen won their opening two games of the pre-season last weekend, defeating Coquitlam both times, by a score of 8-3.

“We’ve been pretty impressed with the newcomers,” said Head Coach and General Manager Bobby Henderson. “Despite the big turnover we had last year, we’ve got a good group and we were fortunate to get some good recruits. We look to be in pretty good shape for the year.”

While much of the training camp has been focused on team chemistry, the topic of goaltenders is one that Henderson is not too concerned about.

“Both guys are very capable, hungry and driven,” said Henderson. “We’ve got a good tandem, who have two different styles. Darren’s more of a technical goalie, aggressive, big and takes up a lot of net. Bo’s younger, not as big physically, great athletic ability and can make the big save when needed.”

The Rivermen have also announced third year forward, Kevan Kilistoff will wear the ‘C’ for the 2014-2015 season. Kilistoff finished last season with 29 points in 56 games.

“It’s definitely an honour,” he said. “I’m a Langley kid, so being a captain of your hometown team is a real honour.”

“It was a no-brainer for us,” said Henderson. “Kevan’s a guy that comes to work every day with a positive attitude. He’s as reliable as they come and will be a big part of our hockey club this season.”

Kilistoff admits he’s not the most vocal leader, but will let his play do the talking.

“I feel more mature this year,” he said. “I’ll have more of a role talking to the guys. I’m going to be more of a leader this year. I usually try to lead by example, but I’ll have to work on being more of a vocal leader this year.”

The Rivermen will look to finish the pre-season strong. Friday’s game versus the Surrey Eagles is at 7:00PM at the South Surrey Arena. Langley’s final pre-season game against Powell River is at 2:00PM at the Langley Events Centre. Admission is free.
