Rivermen Set to Begin Busy Stretch with 5 Games in 7 Days

Riv_GAME-PREVIEW_RMsiteThe Langley Rivermen get ready for a busy stretch, when they play five games in seven days, starting tonight when they visit division rivals, the Coquitlam Express at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Centre at 7:00PM.

The Rivermen’s next four out of five games are against divisional opponents with the lone exception being Langley’s home opener Saturday night against Nanaimo.

The Rivermen are coming off their first win of the season last Sunday, defeating the Vernon Vipers 7-4 on the road.

“It was good to leave Vernon with a win and hopefully now that gets the ball rolling,” said Gage Torrel, who leads the team with four points.

“We had three solid lines rolling,” said Hunter Anderson. “We stepped it up in the third period and it was a good effort from everyone to get that win.”

Langley comes into Friday’s game with a 1-2 record, falling short in the opening two games of the season.

“The first two games, we got down on ourselves when the other team would score,” said defenseman Jordan Schneider. “Against Vernon we had a good bounce back and showed our resiliency. We also buried our chances. We just have to take that positive into this coming weekend and try and get six points.”

Coquitlam comes into the game in third place in the Mainland Division, a point ahead of Langley, but have played two more games than the Rivermen. The Express have a record of 1 win, 2 losses and an overtime loss. This will be their fourth straight home game.

The Rivermen will looking for revenge as the Express knocked them out of the playoffs of the Mainland Division Final in six games.

After Coquitlam, the Rivermen will play their home opener when they host the Nanaimo Clippers on Saturday night at 7:00PM at the Langley Events Centre. The first 1,500 fans receive a Rivermen Foam Finger, presented by Global BC. Fans will also receive 2-for-1 entry when they bring a food or cash donation to the Global Food Bank.

Doors will open at 5:30PM as the LEC will also feature a carnival themed area in the banquet hall, where there will be face-painting, balloon animals and delicious food. There will be plenty of prizes given away all night.

After the game, fans will have the opportunity to get autographs from the entire Rivermen team at the top of Gate 2.
